I love fall. I want to bake, craft, wear scarves, layer my clothes, drink pumpkin spice latte (I’m from the PNW – I have to have coffee and I typically drink it black except for an occasional pumpkin spice), and eat apples. They are a dime a dozen around here and I like to take full advantage of it. I’m even going to try some new recipes. Seems to be a lot of apple recipes on Pinterest I have never tried or even heard of. So I’m going full bore. Balls to the wall!
My favorite dessert to make hands down is apple crisp. It gives you the false illusion it is healthy. Oats with apples = yes! Butter and sugar = yum, but let’s not focus on the calories. It’s still “healthy” to me when it comes to desserts. And it’s an easy whip together that makes it look like you slaved away all day. When really it takes about 10 minutes to prepare.
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1 cup oats – old fashioned
- 1/2 cup butter – melted
- 4-5 granny smith apples – peeled & sliced
- 1 Tbs cinnamon
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Take your 9″ x 11″ Pyrex (glass baking dish) and lightly grease it. Throw in your sliced apples and lay out somewhat evenly. If your apples are too tart sprinkle a light dusting of regular sugar. It will tame the flavor a bit.
I like to microwave my butter when I’m done with the apples and then mix in the flour, sugar, oats & cinnamon. Using a fork mix together until crumbly and layer onto the apples.
Bake for 30 minutes. Let the crisp rest for 15 minutes after pulling out of the oven before serving.
So many folks like vanilla ice cream on the side or whip cream. Whatever floats your boat is what I say. I like mine plain. It’s just that yummy!
Just remember – Stressed is Desserts spelled Backwards! So don’t be stressed and make dessert this weekend.
