Oreo Treats – Power’s Out Dessert

Oreo Treats

Oreo Treats

So I found this easy recipe all around on Pinterest and figured hey I can make those. We have a friend having a house-warming party and I was always raised that you bring food or a gift to every invite. Sometimes people don’t specify so I don’t know if I’m to bring things or not. Wine, beer, coasters, funky kitchen gift (avocado slicers are minor miracles in case you ever need a quicky gift), a babysitter or designated driver.

In those situations I usually just bring my own beer. Many friends have seen this situation: I come in, set down my purse and immediately grab a beer out of my purse to enjoy. RSVP oh I thought it read BYOB. My mistake. Not really! Sometimes you need a cold beer and too many folks drink fancy schmancy beer that I don’t have the taste for. Basic bitch here!

Anyways I’m wasn’t sure if I’m to bring something to this housewarming so I figured you can always be safe with a small dessert item. Cue searching on Pinterest and the pantry to find this little gem. Now I love a good rice crispy treat, honestly who doesn’t. And it has to be homemade not one of that prepackaged treats, not the same taste whatsoever. Also the power went out so I had to make something easy to bring and the apple crisp I wanted to make was out since I couldn’t use the oven. So here is the recipe breakdown, if you can call it that.

  • 14oz Oreo Cookies – crumbled
  • 5 cups Marshmallows
  • 4 Tbs Butter

Take a large cooking pot and melt the butter. Make sure not to burn the butter or else it will taste funky (I’ve done it, don’t judge). When it is almost melted mix in the marshmallows. Keep stirring, about 1 minute, until melted. Add the crumbled Oreos and pour into a greased foil lined 9×9 glass plan to set up. Let it sit an hour or so, cut into bite size portions and then enjoy.

You can always do this using the microwave if using the stove is a novel concept to you – kidding! Just melt the butter and marshmallows for 1 minute, stir, nuke it again in 20 second increments to make sure it’s not overdone, mix in the crumbled Oreos and let sit.

So I guess the moral of the story is in life please specify what you want me to bring to events and things. Or else I’m only going to bring my own beer! Haha!

Not my regular beer but a sweet change up!
